Three Countries In

It’s been awhile. Trying to stay updated and backpacking at the same time is not an easy task. Within the last eleven days, we have been in four countries (including Israel). On the 15 we flew from Tel Aviv to Copenhagen and were in Denmark for three days before flying to Stockholm, Sweden on the 18 of March. We were in Sweden until March 24 when we flew to London and have been here in London since. Each place has been different and wonderful.

For our couple of days in Denmark, we saw a few sights, ate some really good food and spent time with our lovely host family. It was a bit of a struggle for the three of us to get over our culture shock. Being in Israel for so long really made it home for me and I’ve missed it a lot. Not only the place and the people from there, but our group as well. So the first couple days in Denmark were a bit of struggle, but since we have been doing a lot better.

Our time in Sweden was so great. We spent our first night with our host family and from there we spent about three nights in an apartment right in Stockholm. It was so wonderful to have time to explore the city, rest, and process. Stockholm was charming and the buildings were so classy and unique. Each and everyone had so much history. We spent the last two nights with Carina, Peter and Moa, our wonderful host family and had so many wonderful conversations, meals and things to see.

Today is our third day in London and it is completely exquisite. I was excited to come to London but I had no idea how much I’d love it. It is simply beautiful and so charming. The palaces, the gardens, the well-dressed and well-mannered people, the teatime, the accents…oh my goodness. This place has won me over. We spent 12 hours yesterday running around the city. We saw so, so much. Cade, a friend of ours from the Israel trip, was in Paris and took a bus to London to be here for a little over 36 hours. It was so good to catch up and talk about all that we’ve seen and all that the Lord has done. We went to two museums, saw a few palaces, walked through a couple gardens and parks and finished the day with fish n’ chips. At one point in the day we saw a large rain cloud and were a bit confused as yesterday was not supposed to rain at all. We learned quickly that you can’t quite count on the forecast in London. It only rained for about 20 minutes and was beautiful the rest of the day. It was a great first day in London. This morning we woke up to a bit of rain and have had a late and slow start to the day. I’m hoping we can head to a cafe or bakery and look at some flower shops or a museum today.

One thing that I’ve learned since traveling Europe the last eleven days is that God answers prayer, He cares about the little things and I don’t need stuff. God has done so, so much in the past several days and has answered so many prayers and it’s been so incredible to see. At the start of this trip, my prayer was that it wouldn’t just be about seeing the world and doing sightseeing but that we’d have opportunity to share the Gospel and that the Lord would use us. He’s done those things faithfully so far and I am so expectant of what He will continue to do.

I wish I had the time and energy to write about all that we’re experiencing and show lots of photos but that just means I’ll have a lot of friend-dates once I return to the states 🙂

Prayer Requests

  • Continue to pray that the Lord would use us on this trip. Pray that this wouldn’t be about sightseeing but about the Lord using us and spreading the Gospel.
  • Pray that the Lord would continue to work on my heart about missions and that He would lead me in where He wants me to go.
  • Pray for us as we miss Israel. It’s hard to explain how much I miss that place, that experience, those moments. It was the best experience I’ve ever had in my life thus far and may continue to be for the rest of my life. I learned so much, saw so much and lived so much. Pray that we would be able to experience this trip now fully and pay attention to what God has for us.

love, Alison
